 Native American Wisdom

The talking  Stick
Picture
The talking stick is a ceremonial tool that was traditionally used by some Native American tribes during council meetings. Passing the talking stick from speaker to speaker was a respectful way for individual members of the tribe to communicate and share opinions without interruption. This tradition was especially helpful in keeping disagreements from getting out of hand, allowing each speaker a turn at sharing his views without cheers, applause or abuse being directed at him or her.

Buffalo
Being a primary source of food and materials for many a Native American, the buffalo (or American Bison) hold a special meaning in Native American culture. They represent the sustaining of life in addition to the trait of humbleness. Because this valuable resource can be scarce, the buffalo symbol is a reminder to take only what one needs.

Native Americans believe the bear to be of grounding forces and strength. The animal has been worshipped throughout time as a powerful totem, inspiring those who need it and giving courage to stand tall in the face of adversity. As a spirit animal in touch with the earth and the cycles of nature, it is a powerful guide able to support physical and emotional healing
